Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the themes of identity history and memory through Amitav Ghosh’s “The Shadow Lines” Methodology and Approaches: This research paper explores study on “The Shadow Lines”, by Amitav Ghosh, identity, history and memory. This book examines the detailed connections between individual and social identities, the lasting effects of historical occurrences, and the inflexible nature of memory. The study investigates how the characters struggle with their identities in the context of evolving cultural and national setting through an in-depth study of the characters journey. Outcome: this paper offers an understanding about how the partition affected the people and there live. This even cause the people to lose their identity. However, this paper explains the importance of memory in regaining and understanding one’s identity. Conclusion and Suggestions: “The Shadow Lines” is a compelling piece of literature that explores deep themes and compels readers to think about their own identities, the influence of historical events on their lives, and the role of memory in determining how they perceive themselves and society.
