Society for Progressive Letters (SPL)
The Society for Progressive Letters (SPL) is an independent, non-profit academic initiative envisioned as a forward-looking intellectual enterprise committed to fostering an inclusive, reflective, and ethically grounded scholarly community. It was established with the objective of promoting high-quality research, critical inquiry, and interdisciplinary dialogue, in alignment with internationally recognized standards of academic publishing. The formation of the Society represents a structured and collective academic initiative aimed at strengthening the role of scholarship in advancing understanding, harmony, intellectual responsibility, and humanistic values. The Society has been particularly committed to the advancement of the humanities, recognizing their central role in developing cultural literacy, historical awareness, and critical thinking. The disciplines within the humanities enable scholars to engage with diverse cultural traditions, examine the processes through which artistic and literary expressions are produced, and critically analyse how histories are constructed and interpreted. These fields contribute to a deeper understanding of both the past and the present, while literature, in particular, enhances the interpretive and imaginative capacities necessary for meaningful academic engagement and future-oriented thinking. In this context, the Society has promoted the development of original scholarship, methodological rigor, and responsible critical discourse. It has encouraged contributions demonstrating academic integrity, analytical depth, and ethical research practices, aligned with global scholarly expectations.
Governance and Academic Structure
The Society for Progressive Letters operates through a clearly defined and transparent governance framework, comprising:
- An Advisory Board of experienced academicians and subject experts
- An Executive/Managing Body responsible for policy formulation and administration
- Academic and editorial committees associated with its initiatives
All functions are guided by principles of transparency, accountability, and adherence to recognized ethical standards in academic practice.
Relationship with the Journal
The SPL Journal of Literary Hermeneutics: A Biannual International Journal of Independent Critical Thinking was originally established by the Society for Progressive Letters (SPL) as its founding academic initiative. However, for the purposes of clarity, transparency, and compliance with international publishing standards, it is hereby stated that:
- The Society for Progressive Letters now holds only a foundational and historical association with the journal.
- The Society does not have any role in the current editorial, administrative, financial, or publishing operations of the journal.
- The journal is independently managed and operated by Cavemark Publications Private Limited, which is solely responsible for all operational, technical, and financial aspects.
All editorial decisions continue to be made independently by the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board, based exclusively on academic merit, without any external influence.
Invitation to the Scholarly Community
The Society for Progressive Letters envisions its broader mission as a collaborative academic platform dedicated to advancing knowledge and critical scholarship in the humanities. It continues to encourage scholars, researchers, and intellectuals to engage in rigorous, ethical, and impactful research practices. This vision reflects a sustained commitment to fostering a more engaged, responsible, and globally connected scholarly community, grounded in the enduring values of intellectual integrity and academic excellence.
