Abstract

Aims: This paper aims to discuss about the importance of “Female Self” in Indian Literature through the selected poems of Amrita Pritam and analyzing the concept of “Love” in her poetry. Methodology and Approaches: This paper is based on the “Female Self” and the concept of “Love” in Amrita Pritam’s select poems. It will start with the poet’s introduction and further elaborate the importance of female perspective in Literature and the female experience of self-discovery with a reference to the three phases as given by Elaine Showalter. Along with this, the paper will also see the different shades of Love in the poems written by Amrita Pritam from the feminist perspective. Outcome: This paper offers an understanding about the women in the society through Pritam’s poems. It will also discuss the feeling of spiritual love and elucidate the meaning of the three phases of women with reference to Showalter’s text. Conclusion and Suggestions: Female Self is understanding who your real self is. By understanding your own self and loving it, you form a spiritual connection with self. A woman in this patriarchal society should be allowed to explore herself. Reading Amrita Pritam and her works and analysing them with reference to Elaine Showalter will help women empower each other.
