Aims: The present paper “All-India Progressive Writers’ Movement: A National Literary Protest for Progress” aims to elaborate on the genesis and establishment of All-India Progressive Writers’ Movement. It will focus on its emergence as nothing less than a national literary movement. Tracing the evolution of All-India Progressive Writers’ Movement at different stages, paper will eventually judge the movement’s success. Progressive literature did not have an escapist attitude. Progressive writers’ purpose is discussed intricately and their complex understanding of humanity and society are comprehensively elaborated upon. Progressive writers were anti-imperialistic, emancipatory, left-oriented and unconventional in general. The paper will focus on how they linked their craft with social and political practicalities. Their aim was Modernity and relieving the society from orthodoxy and unwanted stigmas. Methodology and Approaches: The paper is primarily based on the elaborations of the insights given by the various critics and historical records. The methods and approaches adopted for writing this paper are explanatory, comparative and analytical. Outcome: The paper offers a detailed pattern of the emergence and downfall of the movement. It is also concluded that AIPWA was first and last of its kind which ever happened in India. The paper justifies how AIPWA can be termed as a successful movement. Conclusion and Suggestions: The purpose was to show mirror to the society and figure out the ways to deal with them. The movement’s success was dependent on the adoption of its manifesto and its embryonic resolutions. It united the writers across communities. The AIPWA furnished the writers with organizational form, space, dynamics and direction.
