Abstract

Aim: The present critical Paper aims to present Sisterhood’s powerful impact using the fiction The Unlikely Adventures of the Shergill Sisters by transnational diasporic writer Balli Kaur Jaswal. Approach: A thorough analysis of the novel The Unlikely Adventures of the Shergill Sisters and its three main characters Rajni, Jezmeen and Shirina.Outcome: The difficult growing-up years of the Shergill sisters - Rajni, Jezmeen and Shirina, have driven them apart. With each passing years the already ‘scattered’ and separated sisters they have become strangers and adversaries. Thrown together by the commitment to the last wish of their deceased mother, they are forced to build up tolerance for each other. Surfacing of their hidden resentments leads to ugly confrontations and conflicts. This catharsis clears the ignorance and sets the stage for a new beginning. Bonding for the better, the ‘forced togetherness’, helps them discover their true power.Conclusion: Jaswal shows that Sisterhood is a powerful force through the binding of her distraught Shergill sisters.
